Improving Goshen

Discover Sandra's Priorities

Continue the upkeep of our infrastructure

The upkeep of our roads and utilities is important for our community to continue thriving. I promise to be a responsible steward of our city budget and resources to continue upgrading our infrastructure in a responsible manner by creating partnerships with the head of the city’s departments and becoming familiar with the manufacturer of the city.

Support housing development for all income levels

Goshen is in need of housing for people of all income levels. I vow to work with city staff, the Redevelopment Commission, and developers to analyze and to support housing programs that will meet the community’s needs as well as attracting newcomers.

Support our environmental resilience efforts

Our parks are a source of pride and joy in our community. I will continue to work to protect our natural resources and to support initiatives that put Goshen on the path for environmental resilience, including the Flood Resilience Plan and the Canopy Tree Program.

Continue to build a strong community

A strong community requires building bridges between people with varying perspectives. I am committed to maintaining our united community by participating in events such as the Neighborhood Association gatherings, First Fridays, and other city activities.

Represent all in our diverse community

As a City Councilwoman at-large, it will be my duty and honor to engage, to listen, and to represent every voice in Goshen: of any gender, age, race, ethnicity or ability to meet their needs.

Continue the city's partnership with Goshen Community Schools

Together with the rest of the City Council, I will continue to support the Goshen Community Schools students to engage with the local government offices through the Youth Advisory Commission.

I came to the United States in 1998. After working for five years, I left the manufacturing sector because I decided to focus on my children’s education. In the meantime, I got more involved in the community by becoming the chair of the Reith Park Neighborhood Association, a member of the Community Relations Commission, and a member of the Community Coalition for Immigration Reform with a Path to Citizenship.

In May of 2019, I earned a Bachelor’s in Social Work from Goshen College. In May of 2022, I received my Master’s in Social Work from Loyola University focusing on work with immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. I obtained the Certificate of Advanced Brief Interventions for Substance Use among Multiple Communities (CABISAM).

I know representation is key. I’m knowledgeable about what it is like to work in a factory as well as working in the professional field. I understand how the everyday demands in people’s lives are a barrier to approaching elected officials. Instead of asking people to come to me, I plan to reach out to them.
